ANGE POSTECOGLOU couldn’t resist firing a barb back in David Martindale’s direction after the Livi boss said that the Celtic boss had the luxury of a budget ’30 to 35 times’ the one he has to play with.
The Livi boss broke the unwritten rule by talking too much about budgets in the lead-up to tomorrow’s Premiership clash.
Ange Postecoglou fired a barb back at David Martindale[/caption]Stressing the huge financial disparity at the heart of Premiership matches, he said: “What’s their budget? We are £1.3m.
“I know one player at Celtic who is on the same as our collective weekly wage. That’s where you are and you’d be foolish to go toe to toe with them.
“It would be like racing a Ferrari with a Renault Clio. You are going to lose so you need to find a way to win the race.
“Ange was a wee bit vocal on it and Gio too in terms of budgets and opponents they were coming up against in Europe. Real Madrid are perhaps around eight times Celtic’s. Napoli, Ajax, Liverpool probably about eight or nine times Rangers’ budget.
“If you want to go into the finer detail of Livingston and Celtic let’s be very conservative here and say it’s 30-35 times my budget.”
Speaking in his own press conference today, Postecoglou couldn’t resist firing a little barb back in Martindale’s direction.
“I think he tells us that on a weekly basis, doesn’t he?
“So there’s no secret there.
“Which is a nice way of him sort of downplaying their prospects and maybe pumping himself up a little bit and there’s nothing wrong with that.
“Nah, listen, he’s doing a great job, has a clear idea with the way he wants his team to play.
“He backs his players, you can tell every game they’re up for the contest, well drilled and disciplined so that’s why they are where they are in the league.
“I’ve got admiration for him, I’ve got admiration for every manager, I know how tough the role is, irrespective of where you’re working, there’s always challenges there and for me I have respect for everyone who’s in that role.
“Where Livingston are and the way they’ve gone about things you can only admire the work he and everyone at the club has done, including the players.”
