Rangers could lose John Lundstram in the summer transfer window as Trabzonspor look to sign him when his contract expires, according to Çağrı Aktaş.
The Kuzey Anadolu journalist (18 April) reported that the Turkish side wants to add the experienced midfielder to their squad and have upped their offer for the former Everton and Sheffield United man.
The English midfielder is out of contract in the summer [Football Insider] and the Gers are looking to tie him down to a new deal. This hasn’t stopped the Super Lig outfit from pursuing him.
In his Kuzey Anadolu report, Çağrı said: “The claret-blue team established a new contact with the player, with whom they had previously negotiated a transfer.”
Should Rangers let John Lundstram go to Trabzonspor?
Since signing from Sheffield United in July 2021 on a free transfer, Lundstram has gone on to make 148 appearances for the Gers. In that time he has scored 11 goals including the Europa League semi-final winner v RB Leipzig [FotMob].
During this campaign, he has played a large role under Philippe Clement. He has featured in all bar-one game in the SPFL and has provided four assists.
The 30-year-old has been an important part of the squad all season. With Ryan Jack and Mohammed Diomande now out, his role is only set to get bigger for the run-in.
Given that he appears to be unsure about signing a new contract at Ibrox, it will be out of Rangers’ hands come the summer.
The transfer window will allow Clement to add to his squad and potentially replace the outgoing Lundstram. He is certainly a big part of the squad and will be missed if he is to depart.
