Neil Lennon believes that it was horrendous that Dundee had to call off the game twice and Rangers are right to demand compensation.
The Daily Record reported on 3 May that Gers are looking for a five-figure fee and Dundee have made it clear they do not plan to pay that.
The postponed fixture did not work out in the favour of Philippe Clement’s side with them dropping two points in the title race against Celtic.
Lennon told PLZ Soccer on 3 May at 26:13 “Once is bad enough two horrendous you know what I mean so I don’t think, on the outside looking in don’t they have a lot to complain about.
“I understand where Rangers are coming from on that.”
Rangers have every right to demand money from Dundee
Gers’ demand for compensation from Dundee over the twice-postponed fixture at Dens Park is justified, as the call-offs significantly impacted their title race against Celtic.
The postponements not only disrupted their momentum but also resulted in the team dropping crucial points in their bid to reclaim the title.
Lennon’s comments suggest an understanding of the club’s position, acknowledging that two call-offs are indeed “horrendous” and that the 55-time champions have legitimate grounds for seeking compensation.
This highlights the wider impact of such postponements on a team’s performance and morale, especially in high-stakes situations like a title race.
The compensation demand can be seen as the least Gers can do to mitigate the potential financial and competitive consequences of the postponements.
By seeking a five-figure sum, the club are attempting to address the direct costs incurred as well as the indirect impact on their title aspirations.
The situation underscores the importance of maintaining professional standards in the league, particularly concerning the quality of playing surfaces and the scheduling of fixtures.
