BARNSLEY have hit top form in the League One promotion race and the Tykes can stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games by winning at Wycombe.
Michael Duff’s side made it three straight wins with a 3-0 home success over second-top Plymouth last Saturday and their excellent road form gives me confidence they can win again at 29/20.
Barnsley manager Michael Duff has led his team on a strong run[/caption] Thomas Frank’s Brentford can pile on the misery for Brendan Rodgers[/caption]Wycombe have reacted well to losing Gareth Ainsworth to QPR but they’re six points outside of the play-off places and could struggle against Barnsley’s quality despite home advantage.
Barnsley have a massive match coming up on Tuesday at home to league leaders Sheffield Wednesday and a win today would edge them closer to the automatic promotion places with games in hand over their biggest rivals.
BRENTFORD banked another 3 points with a 2-0 win at Southampton on Wednesday and Thomas Frank’s men can pile further misery on Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester with a win over the struggling Foxes at a general 10/11.
Goals from Ivan Toney and Yoane Wissa gave The Bees a 10th win of the season to move into 8th place in the Premier League and the dream of European football is alive with Toney’s goals helping them to within 3 points of 5th placed Newcastle.
SPURS should surely be good enough to win at Southampton at 4/5 with CHELSEA (4/9) taken to compete a near 4/1 PL treble by beating Everton in the 5.20opm kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
MIDDLESBROUGH justified last week’s headline bet by beating Swansea at 23/20 and Michael Carrick’s players can prove to be banker material at The Riverside at 1/2 against mid-table Preston.
‘Boro could only add a single point to their tally in a 1-1 midweek draw against Stoke but they still top the best of the rest outside of the automatic promotion places and Michael Carrick’s men should have their Saturday heads on to get back to winning form against North End.
MILLWALL should win at a slightly better 8/15 at home to Huddersfield and Sunderland could be vulnerable at home to 13/8 LUTON after 3 straight wins have taken Rob Edwards’ Hatters’ unbeaten run to 5 games.
CARLISLE landed the money for us at 7/5 away to Swindon last Saturday and League Two’s second placed club can continue a tremendous run of form by winning at home to Steve Evans’s Stevenage at 13/10 after ticket sales for the game went though the roof this week.
I tipped FALKIRK to beat Championship Ayr in Monday’s Cup quarter final at 11/8 and John McGlynn’s side can bank another 3 points in Scoland’s League One by winning away to Queen of the South at Evens.
ABERDEEN get the vote to beat Hearts at 29/20 and I also like the look of LIVINGSTON to beat Ross County at 23/20 and give themselves every chance of going back into the top six if ST MIRREN fail to justify my hopes that they can win at Tannadice.
Davie Martindale’s side had started to look in need of a break before they stopped a 4-games losing run with a draw against Dundee United and County haven’t won away from Dingwall since November.
Saturday SINGLE
QPR landed last week’s bet at 2/1 and I reckon Liverpool’s conquerors BOURNEMOUTH represent outstanding value at 4/1 away to Aston Villa.Â
Weekend ACCA
Barnsley 29/20
Brentford 10/11
Middlesbrough 1/2
Luton 13/8
Carlisle 13/10
Only 3 from 5 last Saturday but once more into the breach dear friends with this week’s Acca paying out at over 40/1 with most firms.
CELTIC V HIBERNIAN
Celtic brushed Hearts aside at Tynecastle last Saturday and the treble-chasing champions can bank another 3 points against Hibs with the visitors having capitulated at home to Rangers last midweek.
Josh Campbell and Callum McGregor in action[/caption]Hibs had strung together 3 straight wins and gone 5 games unbeaten before that but they may find themselves overtaken by Aberdeen on Saturday before less-taxing games against Motherwell and Dundee United.
Celtic won to nil last week but they’d conceded in their 3 previous matches and today’s best bet looks like fast-starting Celtic to lead HT and FT which boosts the 2/11 win price to 8/13.
MOTHERWELL V RANGERS 12.30pm Sky Sports
Rangers were 14/1 ON to beat Raith Rovers last week but we boosted the home win to 8/15 by backing Michael Beale’s players to win and both sides NOT to score with the Gers winning 3-0.
Saturday’s lunchtime trip to Lanarkshire sees Rangers 1/3 to win and keep Celtic up to their work against Hibs later but they face a Motherwell side having won 3 of their last 4 games and both of their last 2 matches at Fir Park.
Ryan Jack and Ricki Lamie[/caption]Rangers pose a different test to St Mirren and Hearts and while the 19/5 draw wouldn’t be a shock result, I suspect Rangers will fine enough to win at a general 1/3.
ABERDEEN V HEARTS
Lawrence Shankland could be back in Robbie Neilson’s plans for Pittodrie but the striker could start on the bench here and I fancy the Dons to avenge January’s 5-0 thrashing at Tynecastle under Jim Goodwin.
Barry Robson seems to hear about a new Pittodrie boss arriving every day but the stand-in coach has secured 3 wins in his last 4 games and can make it 3 from 3 at Pittodrie after a 2 weeks break from action.
Hearts couldn’t cope with Celtic in back-to-back league and cup matches but they also disappointed away to Motherwell before that and the Dons look a value price at 29/20 for the win.
DUNDEE UTD V ST MIRREN
Jim Goodwin’s old clubs are arriving thick and fast at Tannadice and the 6th placed Buddies can keep United rock bottom of the Premiership by taking all 3 points at a general 8/5.
Saints had last weekend off after the previous weekend’s 5-1 mauling rom Celtic but Stephen Robinson’s players had beaten Ross County and drawn with St Johnstone before that and they’ll be glad the Celtic game is out of the way.
Goodwin’s new layers managed to take a point away to Livingston last week but St Mirren are unlikely to sit back here and United could suffer a 5th straight home defeat for the first time in 20 years.
