Rangers have their pre-match team-talk sorted ahead of the Old Firm derby against Celtic (11 May) after Brendan Rodgers’ comments following his side’s 3-0 win over Hearts.
Rangers must show Rodgers and his side how intent they are to wrestle the Scottish Premiership title out of Celtic’s hands, and prove that no Old Firm game can ever be “a bit of fun.”
Philippe Clement’s side face Kilmarnock at Ibrox on 5 May, and have the chance to close the gap at the top of the Premiership back to just three points ahead of their trip to Parkhead.
After Celtic defeated Hearts to move six clear at the summit, Rodgers said in quotes reported by Clyde 1 SuperScoreBoard: “At this stage of the season it’s all mentality, and mentally you can see we’re in a really good place.
“But, we’ll take nothing for granted, we’ll get our plan ready, and then next Saturday we’re going to have a bit of fun.”
Rangers riot act must follow disrespectful Rodgers comments
Rangers and their fans don’t need much motivation to be ready for an Old Firm derby regardless of time or place, but if any added feeling was needed, Rodgers has more than provided it with those post-match comments.
The title race between the two Glasgow rivals has ebbed and flowed throughout this season, particularly since Clement’s arrival through the door at Ibrox, but with a handful of games left, there’s no room for error from a Rangers perspective.
Ibrox laid witness to a 3-3 draw on 7 April as the Gers came back from both 2-0 and 3-2 down late on to secure a potentially pivotal point, but the contrasting form of the two sides since means it’s advantage Celtic going into the final throes of the season.
It’s shaping up to be one of the fiercest Old Firm derbies in many a year, and one which could decide the fate of this year’s Premiership, but if Rangers fail to beat Kilmarnock, Celtic will have a near-unassailable lead at the summit.
