Chris Jack has tipped Rangers to make the “obvious” move to sign Connor Barron when his contract at Aberdeen runs out at the end of the season.
Jack explained that while on paper Barron may be available for free, any deal to bring him to Ibrox would likely include a fee, which would be higher for Gers than most other teams in Scotland.
However, he is among the talented young players in the SPFL who can be brought to Ibrox for a decent fee and wages, with Jack urging the club to get it done.
Speaking on The Rangers Review [24 April], Jack insisted: “Sometimes signings are just that obvious and they hit you in the face. In terms of Scottish players and players Rangers should be targeting, Barron is certainly on that list.
“I think with the likes of Barron, it’s not picking them up for nothing, we will have to pay a fee for him and Rangers will have to pay slightly more than a Championship club would for example.
“He’s got lots of improvement in him, ticks the Scottish box and they know what it’s like to play against Rangers and are fully aware of the media circus around Rangers.
“There’s certainly talent within this league that can be got at for a decent transfer fee and a decent wage.”
Rangers urged to sign Connor Barron from Aberdeen
Barron is set to leave Aberdeen when his contract expires this summer, leading plenty to suggest the Ibrox club should go all-out to ensure he lands on their side of Glasgow rather than elsewhere.
Four Lads had previously reported that Barron was unlikely to make the switch to Ibrox, hinting that he would prefer to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Lewis Ferguson and Aaron Hickey by moving to Italy to further his development.
However, there seemed to be a renewed positivity surrounding the deal, with Barron one of several young Scottish talents on Rangers’ radar ahead of the summer window who tick plenty of boxes in terms of their recruitment plan.
Since Nils Koppen arrived at Ibrox in January, the club has sought to sign younger players who can develop and eventually be sold for a profit. If this plan leads to signing the best young players in Scotland, it would make plenty of sense.
In other Rangers news, John Lundstram has agreed details over an exit from Ibrox.
